The Power of People and importance of Positive Leadership

In 2016 DCMS were the well-deserved winner of ORC International’s most improved award for engagement. They’ll be sharing the story behind their success. For DCMS the clue is in the title of their “People Survey” – it’s all about people. This belief manifests itself in a number of ways – from the way senior leaders connect with people, the connections colleagues are encouraged to make with the people around them, the approach taken to communicating, the connection made between individual contributions and the bigger impact of the Department on society and the #lovetolearn approach….

Helen was appointed Director General for Performance and Strategy in the Department for Culture, Media and Sport on 1 April 2017. She is responsible for the department’s corporate functions as well as for the relationship with arm’s length bodies, the Office for Civil Society and the culture and sport portfolios. Helen also shares responsibility with the senior leadership for ensuring that all parts of the department are linked and opportunities maximised.

HR Director

Debra is a career civil servant starting work in frontline operational roles in the DWP (and its predecessors) and later moving to corporate centre HR roles including a spell as Fast Stream Grade Manager in the Department of Social Security.  Other roles include Senior HR Business Partner, Head of Employee Relations, Head of Civil Servant Talent and now HR Director for the Department for Media, Culture and Sport.
